Christmas Sugar Cookies

  • 1 ½ cups confectioner’s sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar

  • 2 cups confectioner’s sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • Food coloring (if desired)

  1. In a large bowl, beat sugar, butter, vanilla, and egg until creamy. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar. Add flour mixture to butter mixture in three parts. Separate into 4 sections and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  2. Preheat oven to 375F. Roll each section of dough out to about ¼ inch thick and cut into desired shapes. Arrange 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet and bake for 5 – 9 minutes, until edges are golden. Remove from oven and let cool completely before glazing, about 30 minutes.
  3. To create glaze, combine all glaze ingredients in a small bowl. Color as desired. Drizzle over cookies with a teaspoon, or add extra confectioner’s sugar to thicken and pipe.
